MY GRANDFATHER was buried in Jewish cemetery. Walking to the grave I noticed a wire, suspended on poles, along the side of the path. I turned to the rabbi and asked him what it was for.
He explained that when they built the cemetery they made the paths only four feet wide. It says in the Torah that cohanim, Jews descended from the high priests of the temple, may not go within six feet of a dead body. So this wire represents a wall that separates them from the bodies.
And it made me think: what sort of a religion is it that creates these impossible rules, and then spends so much effort looking for loopholes? And what sort of God is it who is so easily fooled?
No wonder there are so many Jewish lawyers.
