HOW OFTEN HAVE YOU SEEN out-of-condition dads puffing around the park, pushing their small kids along on their bicycles in an exhausting attempt to teach them to ride? There is an easier way.
The problem is that riding a bike requires two separate skills: being able to balance, and being able to turn the pedals with their feet. Trying to master both at the same time makes it twice as difficult.
The best approach is to first remove the pedals from the bike, which you can do with a couple of spanners. Then lower the seat so the child can comfortably fit their feet on the ground.
With the pedals removed, they can easily scoot along using their feet. They’ll get their sense of balance more easily, and you won’t have to puff alongside. Once they’ve mastered balancing, you can put the pedals back on.
