Lying numbers

WHENEVER I SAY a number it comes out as two more than the number I’m thinking of; so when I want to say ‘three’ it comes out as ‘four’. What would l say if l were asked to say ‘five’?

“Whenever I say a number it comes out as two more than the number I’m thinking of”.

So in fact I’m saying one more than the number I’m thinking of, but when I tell you about it I add an extra one.

The answer is five – because I’m thinking of the number four, to which I’ll then add one.
